[Suggestion] Structural changes and modifications

Suggestion for (MTA, Forum, website): MTA


Suggestion:

Add the following rank(s) for Sheriff's Departments.

  • Deputy Sheriff Generalist
  • Deputy Sheriff III
  • Staff Sergeant
  • Assistant Sheriff

Modify the following rank(s) for Sheriff's Departments.

  • Cadet > Trainee or Academy Student

Add the following rank(s) for Police Departments.

  • Probationary Officer

Modify the following rank(s) for Police Departments.

  • Cadet > Trainee or Academy Student

 

Why should this be added?: Would help to even out the missing ranks between Sheriff's Departments and Police Departments.


Anything else you'd like to add?: Cadets are usually defined as members of a youth organisation in which young people learn about and/or participate in law enforcement and police work. Hence the suggestion for change, to clarify the rank and its meaning.

Deputy sheriff generalist is the same as a deputy sheriff I/II as far as I'm aware


Assistant sheriff is the same thing as the chief deputy/undersheriff


I don't understand the need for the other ranks really. Reference the youth comment, that's typically reserved for explorer posts around my neck of the woods, and cops are typically hired as a regular police officer since the departments are so small. I could go either way on that. Then again, I don't see the need to have both a "trainee" and a "probationary officer" rank for police departments.


Adding other ranks though seems to be more busywork than anything else and would affect all of the players who are already top ranks in their respective departments and would be mad that we bumped them back down (I would be too!) Ultimately it's just a game which we all have to remember - I'm guilty of forgetting too :)

Usage of DSI and DSG depends on the department. I agree on that however what about DSIII? Why is that missing from county departments?


Assistant Sheriff is not the same as deputy chief or undersheriff. It's an entirely different rank. In most cases it does have similiriar duties and responsibilites but is far off from being same. With that logic I could be making another suggestion to remove the rank "Commander" from municipal departments, with the same claim "too similiar."


By no means I'm suggesting a bump down for people who have ranks higher than suggested. Their exp count should remain the same, alongside with their unlockables, so I don't see a problem with adding ranks to even out the cap between county and municipal law enforcement agencies.


It's a game, sure but yet again county departments just feel like they are lacking content and are not even finished when compared to municipal police departments that seem to be more polished.


Of course it's going to demand work, however don't base your opinion on a suggestion depending on how much work or time it is going to take. If it improves the game even a little I believe it's wortwhile handling.

The issue with adding more ranks at this point is that for players who would have passed the new ranks, we would either have to add experience to compensate, or lower their rank. Neither of those things would be fair to the overall server population - if we add experience to them, the lower ranking members would lose out since they have to work more to catch up. If we lower the ranks of higher ranking players, then they would lose out on the rank they already obtained


I don't really think it's feasible either way you go (again, busywork for both players and staff)

Then simply compensate everyone who is above cadet? Why leave the rest out? You got one option right here.


Or you could simply not overthink about the opinion of the public as with this kind of thinking you could leave out a lot of improvements that could even out the negative opinion and perhaps even improve general opinion on the game and its quality in the long run. This should be your last concern really, the fact that people are merely going to lose a title, no unlockables, nothing, only their title. You have to realize that you're giving them more to work around with, more gameplay if anything, more to brag about in the future as everyone will be bumped down title wise.


From what I see, we are barely even discussing the suggestion itself, but are rather talking about aspects that are not directly related to the suggestion. Forget the implementation for a minute and tell me if this suggestion is worthwhile by its additions and what it will improve gamewise. First we should agree on what should be added and what is worthwhile adding and then worry about implementation. I see that you're looking over things and care for the general opinion of the public but yet again I'm not asking that you should add this in the next update. You can even take a year or two to put this in. Priority is all up for the development team, and personally I don't even see this as a high-priority update. Eventually you're going to have to touch the ranks anyway, so it would be nice to have all suggestions regarding to ranks there in the first place as it would fasten up the whole process.

To answer your question about the Deputy Sheriff III missing and less exp requirements, we aimed for Sheriff Departments to represent smaller departments unlike the city ones, we understand that a lot of Sheriff Departments such as the Los Angeles County one are rather big but in our case we've decided to work with a case in which the departments will act smaller and therefore require less to work up the rankings unlike the PD ones.


In general, Deputy Sheriff III is not neccessarily missing considering there are plenty of departments around the US with different ranking structures, LVMPD for example doesn't have a PO III / DS III and I'm sure many more don't as well.


As for the ranking structure, at this moment we do not have any plans in changing it as it would require exp changes as well as unlockable changes but it is definently something we might take in mind for our upcoming GTA V (rageMP) multiplayer modification and is definently something we will look into in case we actually decide to change MTA's ranking system in the future as well

Fair enough, makes sense to keep country agencies smaller than municpal departments. However why do Sheriff's departments have access to the same equipment if the focus is to keep them smaller than municipal agencies? I mean the only difference right now is that municipal departments have more titles to grind for, yet you can get the highest title and all of the benefits that come with it with a lower cost in a county agency. Shouldn't we reward those more who grind and put effort in to ranking up? I mean we have 3 ranks that literally serve no purpose in the means of achieving something other than a title. No unlockables, nothing.


My initial suggestion was to even out the ranks but now it seems to me that changing unlockables would be a reasonable thing to do as well. Perhaps we could move some of the city focused vehicles to municipal police departments and give county agencies more off-road focused vehicles? Yet another idea to throw out there. Mix the unlockables and make departments unique in their own way. This would encourage players to play in multiple departments which would increase their playtime.

Honestly I can't even stress to you on how many different vehicles we'd do for each department if we had a way to add more vehicles without changing existing ones, especially in terms of offroad vehicles as you suggested. The grind is there for nothing other than the skin ID 240, I agree, we do have long term plans of possibly stretching out the high ranks to have some kind of controls over units but that's out of the question for now as there's still work to be done on the organisations system, MDC, etc.



We will most likely consider evening the departments out, although even though you stated how county departments might be used more as it's easier to unlock everything they're actually not, most used is LSPD followed by the RCSD, but no department came anywhere close to LSPD.


Issue is everybody is so in love with LS that they didn't really care much when we tried to revive other areas, we wanted to see how much interest such areas would get by creating events in them but during the SFPD one everyone waited for it to end so they could move back to LSPD.


We might consider on how to bring more life to other areas than Los Santos but that is currently lowest of priority as there are a lot more features that need to be worked on right now such as making more callouts, resolving medic bugs (most are already resolved, all should be cleaned out at 1.1.1 release), adding a system for events where the event organiser would have ability to control his units easily, force callouts, etc as well as add an organisation system that would cover San Andreas Highway Patrol as well as tactic important divisions such as S.W.A.T, Detectives, etc.
